PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS.........

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You, too, will grow old.

10 On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

Take a moment today to thank GOD for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters.
We do not have to wait for Heaven to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs!

How we became Sheriffs Rescue

In 2009 I rescued a very special Dachshund .This little boy when I met him he was in a terrible place. The moment I saw him I was in love! He was vetted immediately and needed extensive dental work. He became a special member of our family. Three weeks later he fell over on the living room floor and was in pain and shaking. I called my veterinarian right away, and he recommended that I take him to one of the top Vet clinics in the Lower Mainland. That night I stayed up with him it was one of the saddest nights of my life; he just looked at me as if to say "thank-you, but I am in pain ". He could not use his back legs. The next morning we took him to the clinic and were told that he could not tolerate the medication he was taking, and would always be in pain. He was not a candidate for the operation on his back and it would be the best to put him down. His name was SHERIFF. I vowed that day that I would do whatever it takes to help the Dachshunds! Since then I have been rescuing! I have not been able to say no to any dog yet! SHERIFF RESCUE dogs come from many situations, dogs are injured and their owners cannot afford or provide appropriate care, sometimes dogs are used solely as breeding vessels and are tossed aside when they are no longer useful, families sometimes under-estimate what dog ownership requires and realize too late that they cannot care for their pet, sometimes dogs outlive their humans and there is no one to take them in, and from overcrowded shelters facing death row. Whatever their need I do my best to provide the love and care they require. I run this rescue from my own funds and from the funds attained from the adoptions. I believe that if we all work together we can make a difference!

COMMON SENSE OF DOG TRAINING!

1. YOU ARE IN CHARGE, he needs you to teach him just like a child needs his parent.

2. YOU MAKE THE RULES, and this is hard with him being so cute and lovable but never break the basic rules.

3. YOU REWARD GOOD behaviour with hugs, cuddles rubs and treats.
4.  YOU DO NOT PUNISH!!!!after the fact it is pointless.

5. YOU MUST BE CONSISTENT!!!!!use the same words repeatedly, and make sure everyone uses to same words .

DO NOT GIVE PUPPIES AS GIFTS ,they turn into dogs and can be a 15 year commitment of your time and money

DO NOT RUB YOUR PUPS NOSE IN HIS PEE,all you are doing is burning his nose !

DO NOT HIT OR SHOUT at your pup,it just causes fear.

When you leave your  new dog  contain him in an area and leave your shirt or something that smells like you for him to sleep on.You can also leave the radio or TV on.Reassure him that you will be back.Do this casually so he is not anxious every time you come and go.

Take him  out every 1 -2 hours to the same spot and let him go potty.Maintian a regular schedule so your doggie gets a feel for the routine.Praise your new family member every time he goes.
